look who was blind as a bat and we didn't even know
(not really but if you see her prescription, she might be pretty close.)
for the past couple of months, we noticed she was turning her head far to the left, when she was watching t.v.
it didn't raise any red flags because sometimes she does weird things like that.
after a few more weeks of noticing the head tilt, we started to see that she was also tilting her head when she was talking to me from the back seat of the car.
at this point, we were close enough to her 4 year check-up and we knew she'd have an eye exam.
her vision came back as 20/40, which apparently is nothing terribly alarming but was just "off" enough for the doctor to pass along the name of a few pediatric opthomologists. she said it was up to us if we wanted to pay her a visit soon or just wait and keep an eye on it (no pun intended.)
i'm glad we decided to make an appointment because
elisabeth got the report of having a "severe astigmatism with amblyopia."
in a nut-shell...two oval shaped eyes which are equally as lazy.
wth?
she could barely see things clearly and no one, including elisabeth, knew.
with our our expedited prescription in hand, we paid a visit to douglas,
the highly recommended optometrist who also doubles as the pentagon city mall santa.
he looked pretty legit but i'm convinced the tysons corner mall santa is the REAL santa.
douglas was cool, though. he still has the beard but recently cut his hair.
he was on vacation and said he was getting too hot.
he had just come back from a cruise, after visiting spain, italy and turkey for the past month.
lucky.
i guess that's besides the point...
anyway,
we lurked around the store for a while and tried on all kinds of glasses.
~she chose purple glasses with butterfly accents on the side. she was SO excited to pick them up~
the lenses on those suckers could magnify microorganisms into plain view.
***on our way home, i asked her what was her favorite thing to look at was, now that she had the glasses. she tilted her glasses up, down and then again and yelled "the TREES!! they're not fuzzy anymore!!"***

What an adventure! I love her specs! Reg has had glasses since he came out of the womb so we are always wondering about Tilly's eyes. I'll definitely watch out for these signs now! I got a little teary reading her comment about the trees. Aww sweet E!
ReplyDeleteElisabeth, I love the butterflies! You look so grown up in glasses and pretty as ever too! Love, Ellie
